The first thing that came to mind (and kept on repeatedly coming to mind) was part of a Jonathan Richman song- "And they could laugh, and that's like, rejection- you probably won't like that very well.
You tackled the same subject as I did, with much more quiet and class. The two characters couldn't be more distant while remaining in the picture frame. What's most intriguing is the fact that I can't tell who's rejecting who.
